CIVCO Provides CME Credit on use of Probe Covers for Infection Control
KALONA, Iowa, USA – CIVCO Medical Solutions announces the availability of a new online CME course, Infection Control in Ultrasound: Barrier Protection for Transducers in General and Endocavitary Scanning. Working in collaboration with The Department of Radiologic Sciences at Thomas Jefferson University and SonoWorld.com, CIVCO provides ultrasonography professionals access to helpful information on proper sterile technique when using general purpose, transvaginal and transrectal transducer covers for infection control. Along with discussing the role of probe covers for infection control, narrator Traci B. Fox, MS, RT(R), RDMS, RVT, discusses the procedure for proper disinfection of transducers and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
According to Robin Therme, VP of Interventional Business at CIVCO, “The CDC reported 1.7 million preventable hospital-acquired infections occur every year. It is vital for healthcare professionals to review proper infection control techniques to ensure patients, medical staff and ultrasound equipment are adequately protected. Portability of ultrasound systems increases risk of cross-contamination and spread of nosocomial infections as transducers are transported throughout facilities, but practicing proper sterile technique can significantly reduce this threat and prevent infection.”
The online CME course has been approved by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS) for 0.5 credit hours. To participate in the Infection Control in Ultrasound course, sonographers must have access to the www.SonoWorld.com website – no additional software or equipment is required. Simply log on to the website, view the video files and complete the online test with a score of 70% or better. For additional information on completion of the course, visit www.SonoWorld.com.
